This architectural gem from 1954, designed by the 'neo-baroque' architect Morris Lapidus, has played a starring role in the world of cinema. Probably, one of its most unforgettable moments on the screen is from Brian De Palma's gangster tragedy “Scarface” (1983) when Tony Montana (Al Pacino) confides in Manny (Steve Bauer): “This is paradise, I tell you” over poolside Pina Coladas before they begin hassling the female guests.
Over the years, the Fontainebleau appeared in numerous movies and television shows, including “The Bodyguard” (1992) with Whitney Houston, the final scene of “The Specialist” (1992) with Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone, the 1988 comedy sequel “Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach” with the film's characters staying there during the movie and many of the film's scenes filmed there. More recently, the Fontainebleau appeared in the third season of the Amazon series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in a scene in which Midge Maisel (played by Rachel Brosnahan) and Susie Myerson (played by Alex Borstein) stay at the resort while on tour with Shy Baldwin. In one scene, Midge is shown descending the grand staircase in the ornate lobby.
