Not many people know that the famous Swede Alfred Nobel lived in Russia for over 20 years (1842-1863). His father moved to St.Petersburg when Alfred was 5 years old, and the family joined a few years later. In this house on Petrogradskaya Embankment Alfred spent his childhood years, the family lived here until 1859.

There is a monument to Alfred Nobel by the water across the street, erected in 1991 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the first Nobel Prize presentation.
